Celebrating 35 years
In 1991 Tom Ryan started Ryan Contracting with a simple standard: do the work right. Thirty-five seasons later, that standard still runs every crew, every bid and every job.

Our story
Tom Ryan founded Ryan Contracting Company in 1991 after years of hands-on experience in the industry. The company quickly earned a reputation for reliability, craftsmanship and execution, and under Tom's leadership grew into one of the leading heavy and highway contractors in the Minnesota market.
In 2026 Tom transitioned the business to second-generation ownership under Andy Ryan and Troy Ouverson. With deep respect for the company's legacy and a clear plan for the future, Andy and Troy are investing in people, equipment and technology so Ryan Contracting remains a leader in the industry for decades to come.
Our core is sanitary sewer, watermain and storm sewer, backed by our own grading and concrete crews. We build for cities, developers, general contractors and private owners across Minnesota, on reconstruction projects in established neighborhoods and new infrastructure for growing communities.

Safety
Trench work, heavy equipment and live traffic leave no room for shortcuts. Safety is planned into every bid, every schedule and every shift.
We invest in the training and equipment that protect our crews, and we hold our subcontractors to the same standard.
Union crews
Ryan Contracting is signatory with Operating Engineers Local 49 and Laborers Local 563. Our field crews are trained, experienced tradespeople, and we offer union and non-union paths for salaried staff.
Technology
We are modernizing how we estimate, schedule and track work, with field-to-office software, equipment telematics and better data on every job.
